ultrafragola typeface

Ultrafragola is a typeface inspired by all things mid-modern century blob. This includes the infamous wave mirror, which makes its appearance all over Pinterest and the fancy homes of celebrities today. I became fascinated with this furniture piece, and stumbled upon the internet to find out more about this wave mirror from paradise. The Ultrafragola was created by the Italian designer Ettore Sottsass in 1970, also known as the founder of the Memphis Group. The Memphis Group was infamous for its futuristic design and use of vibrant color in its furniture.

Ultrafragola means "ultimate strawberry" in Italian, and if you've been to Italy then you know the strawberry is the symbol for the female. (If you've ever received a strawberry on your plate, your waiter fancies you). So, ultrafragola means the ultimate female! Ettore Sottsass was so intrigued by the female mystique that he created this mirror with a beautiful softback light inside of the frame to pay homage to the female and her private spaces.
